On October 5th, NovaMova students went to the opulent residence of Ukraine's former president Viktor Yanukovych. We saw his car collection, a dog kennel still in use today, and the park itself. But the biggest surprises were inside the Honka residence. What follows is a report of our time there with lots of pictures.

Why did you choose Kyiv to learn Russian? We posed this question to our students learning Russian from different countries. Based on their answers, we were able to find 10 main reasons why Kyiv is becoming more and more popular as a place to learn the Russian language.

No Visa is needed to travel into Ukraine 

Citizens of the USA, Canada, Japan, Korea, EU nations, Switzerland and Norway can now visit Ukraine for periods of up to 90 days over a 180-day period with a valid passport and do not need a visa, medical examination or go through an application process. 
If you intend to study, reside or do business in Ukraine for more than 90 days, you will have to get a visa.

Ukraine used to be known as ôthe bread basket of the Russian Empireö and has a wealthy tradition of hearty, rich food. 

The number of airlines serving Kyiv Borispol and Kyiv Sikorsky airports from across Europe is constantly growing, and ticket prices are slowly but surely coming down. 
The best recent news for travelers to Kyiv is the start of a “no frills” airline revolution, with WizzAir and Ryanair starting flights. 

Ukraine has a temperate continental climate, which means cold white winters and beautiful warm summers. Spring and autumn seem somewhat short and mild, but can also be rather sunny. But like many aspects of a country as vast as Ukraine, the weather varies from region to region. The further inland you go, the more extreme the weather, so that northeastern Ukraine suffers from the coldest temperatures in the country, while the south becomes very hot in summertime.
